Prom & Graduation Safety

Graduation and Dances are the most anticipated events for high school students.  It is also a time where we see an increase in serious car accidents involving teens due to distracted driving, DUI, or driving under the influence of drugs.  At Stone Creek Insurance, we want to make sure that your family remains safe.

It is ideal for parents to set their expectations before going out.  Placing guidelines into place may not seem fun for the teens, but serves a purpose.  Having everyone’s contact information is good in case of emergencies.  Having a proper discussion with your teen on how to handle demanding situations, peer pressure, and how to say no helps them to prepare for uncomfortable situations.

We want to encourage your teens to have fun, but to follow a few general safety rules when driving to and from these events.

  • Absolutely no alcohol
  • Use seatbelts
  • No cell phone use, including texting while driving
  • Pay attention to the road
  • Do not play music loudly, to ensure you can hear sirens, etc.
  • Have your teens check in with you at a set time, or at least once or twice in the evening
  • Set a curfew, make sure the adults enforce this
  • Give your teens emergency money in case they need to take a taxi
  • Consider other alternate transportation

Vacation Travel Smarts

It is almost the end of the school year, which means a lot of families are starting to think of vacation plans.  Everyone wants to relax and enjoy some time away from the stress of life and work.  Unfortunately, vacation time is prime-time for pickpockets to target tourists.  Here are some tips to help protect your fun and funds and to help ensure your vacation remains amazing.

  • Write yourself a list of what you are bringing
  • Bring a copy of itineraries for all the members of your trip
  • Make color copies of your IDs and other important documents such as your passports
  • Make sure everyone has a list of their emergency contacts
  • To help lighten your luggage, think about doing laundry during your trip to help lessen the amount of clothes you bring. You can opt for washing your clothes in the sink and hang dry your clothes if the laundry service is not available.
  • Pack your light and most comfortable shoes. Try to limit the number of shoes you bring.
  • Use e-readers such as a kindle instead of packing a lot of books for your trip.
  • Try to pack light so you don’t have to use baggage check
  • Don’t carry around too much cash
  • Carry your wallet in your front pocket to make it difficult for thieves to get
  • If you carry a purse, hang it across the front of your body
  • Consider using a money belt to conceal cash and credit cards
  • Think about travel insurance

Remember to have fun and relax, but watch your belongings
